New social event planning app ‘Smylee’ confirms partnership with ‘Cal’ to launch in America

Hitting app stores from the 1st November, Smylee is making life events easier, and there’s a twist, it uses gamification to help people attend too!

Those who love social events know it can be a challenge to organize them at the best of times, getting people together is no easy feat. People RSVP’ing last minute, changing plans, being flaky and cancelling at short notice are real-life issues that can also lead to negative impacts on a person’s state of mind and mental wellbeing.

Smylee – a free IOS and Android mobile app has been designed to help people plan events and social activities, while gaining attendance through a gamified charitable pledge.

Smylee’s functionalities are intuitive; featuring chat, scheduled event reminders, an automated check-in process, run sheets with timings, guest lists, invite additional plus ones, uploading photos, plus a whole lot more.

Here’s where the fun kicks in. Once the organizer has created the event, they are prompted to nominate a monetary charitable pledge. Everyone attending agrees to the pledge amount, if someone doesn’t stick to the event plan and they cancel, turn up late or are just flaky, they pay the pledge to the selected charity. If everyone shows up, no pledges are taken! People can still choose to donate anyway to the charity if they would like to.

Tech entrepreneur and Smylee CEO, Skye Butler, says “Smylee’s ethos is built on a genuine passion to bring communities together through meaningful and reliable face-to-face connections. Our goal is to make organizing events fun and engaging, supporting attendance at social gatherings while ensuring there’s an opportunity to give back to global causes.”

Smylee have entered a partnership with Cal Athletics, launching at its home game against USC at California Memorial Stadium on November 13th. The ongoing partnership will see future activations at the university’s home ground throughout the year. Cal will play a vital role in connecting Smylee with university life.

Smylee Head of Marketing, Kirsty Forbes says “Sport is about lifelong loyalty. It’s about people bonding, cheering each other on and genuinely having a great time. This captures the essence and alliance of our two brands connecting.”

Smylee will be hosting a ‘Smylee Hangout’ at Cal Tailgate Town on November 13th on Maxwell Family Field.
